Are the Brewers About to Pull Off Another Surprise Move?
The Brewers' recent trade with the Boston Red Sox has left fans and analysts alike wondering about the team's next steps. While the trade addressed a need for the Red Sox, it also created a new challenge for Milwaukee, leaving a gap at third base. But here's where it gets interesting: the Brewers have a history of making late-breaking roster moves, and with their starting pitching staff already stacked, they might just have another trick up their sleeve.
The trade saw Rookie of the Year finalist Caleb Durbin, along with Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler, head to Boston. In return, the Brewers acquired speedster David Hamilton, who, despite his impressive skills at second base and on the basepaths, is not an obvious fit for the hot corner.
However, the Brewers' starting rotation remains a strength, even after trading ace Freddy Peralta to the Mets. The top four spots are locked in with Brandon Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski, Quinn Priester, and Chad Patrick. The fifth spot is up for grabs, with several promising candidates, including Brandon Sproat, Logan Henderson, and the newly acquired lefties, Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan.
And this is the part most people miss: the Brewers have a track record of making significant roster additions during spring training. It's almost become their trademark! In previous years, they've signed or traded for key players well into the preseason. For instance, in 2025, they signed Jose Quintana in early March, and even later, they acquired Quinn Priester mid-season.
So, with at least one position still up for grabs in their infield, it's entirely possible that the Brewers' front office, led by President of Baseball Operations Matt Arnold, is already working on another move to finalize their roster.
Will the Brewers surprise us again? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: the team's late-breaking moves have become a fascinating aspect of their strategy.
