It's been an intriguing journey since Andy Farrell last picked a Six Nations team, and now, as he prepares to unveil his squad for the highly anticipated clash against France, the Ireland head coach faces a unique set of challenges.

Farrell's last Six Nations game saw a mix of injuries, suspensions, and retirements, resulting in a significantly different starting lineup for the upcoming match against the defending champions. At least six players from that 2024 squad won't be featured, creating an opportunity for fresh talent to shine.
The big reveal is set for 8 am Irish time on Tuesday, and while some core players are expected, there are crucial decisions to be made, especially in the front row, full-back, and the ever-debated out-half position, which now includes Harry Byrne as a contender.
The Out-Half Dilemma: Byrne's Comeback Story
Byrne's last appearance for Ireland was a memorable one, albeit brief, against Scotland in 2017. Since then, he's had a loan spell at Bristol Bears, returning as a much-improved player. While he hasn't quite secured the first-choice jersey, he's closing in on Sam Prendergast, and his performance has caught Farrell's eye.
Farrell has praised Byrne's involvement with the Ireland XV squad, and although it may have been a strategic move to divert attention from the Prendergast-Crowley debate, Byrne's recall to the senior squad is a testament to his hard work.
Starting Lineup Speculation
There's a growing call for Byrne to start against the French, but Prendergast seems to have the edge, having started the last two games of the Autumn Nations Series. Crowley, who was in top form coming into the autumn, has also made a strong case, starting the opening games and featuring in all but one match since the World Cup.
Full-Back and Wing Considerations
With Keenan and Hansen ruled out, full-back becomes a crucial position. Byrne, Prendergast, and Crowley have all covered at 15 for their provinces, adding an interesting dynamic to the selection process. Jamie Osborne and Jacob Stockdale are neck-and-neck for the starting 15 shirt, with Farrell's previous preferences and Stockdale's impressive form for Ulster in the mix.

If Beirne starts in the second row, it could push James Ryan to the bench, potentially leaving Edwin Edogbo out of the starting lineup. In the back row, Josh van der Flier and captain Caelan Doris are expected to start, with Jack Conan and Cian Prendergast contending for the six shirt, the latter being a standout during the November series.
