A life well-lived and a legacy to remember. Miles L. Carpenter (1944-2026) has left an indelible mark on those he loved and the communities he served. But who was this remarkable man, and why is his passing a significant event?
Born in Oakville, New Brunswick, Miles' life began in a small town, but his impact would reach far and wide. He embarked on his academic journey at the University of South Florida, Tampa, where he obtained his BBA, setting the foundation for a dedicated career in public service. Upon returning to Fredericton, he began his professional life with the provincial government, a role that would shape his commitment to community engagement.
The year 1972 marked a turning point. Miles met his future wife, and their whirlwind romance led to a lifetime of love and companionship. Their marriage, a testament to enduring devotion, lasted 48 years until her passing five years ago. Together, they dedicated themselves to volunteering, church, and community service, embodying the spirit of selflessness.
Post-retirement, Miles' passion for service continued. He established a consulting company, allowing him to dedicate more time to the Knights of Columbus and his newfound interest in genealogy. His research into the Carpenter family history resulted in two published books and numerous family reunions, ensuring his legacy within his own family tree.
Miles' interests were diverse. From gardening and fishing to hunting and woodworking, he found joy in nature and creativity. But his greatest joy was his family, especially his wife, children, and grandsons, with whom he cherished every moment.
The Carpenter family mourns the loss of a pillar of strength and love. Miles is survived by his children Michelle and Jamie, their spouses, and his beloved grandsons and great-granddaughters. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, and three brothers, as well as his in-laws and their extended family.
As we gather to celebrate his life, we invite you to join us at Bishop's Funeral Home on January 11th, followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Family Parish Church on January 12th. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to a charity, honoring Miles' spirit of giving.
And here's where it gets personal: How do we ensure that the memory of our loved ones lives on? Is it through the stories we tell, the traditions we uphold, or the causes we support in their name? Share your thoughts on how we can keep the legacies of those we've lost alive in the comments below.
