Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos Defends Against Allegations of Evidence Withholding in Nancy Guthrie Case
TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - In a recent development, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has refuted claims that he is concealing vital evidence from the FBI in the Nancy Guthrie case. Nanos vehemently denies these allegations, stating that the report is 'not even close to the truth.'
This comes as a surprise, considering the discovery of gloves (https://www.kvoa.com/news/nancy-guthrie/recovered-gloves-wanted-ring-doorbell-footage-highlight-guthrie-case-latest/article_593444a3-7643-4fb4-8821-fd8769a5d2c6.html) during the FBI's ongoing investigation. A private lab in Florida, which has been collaborating with the sheriff's department for years, is currently analyzing DNA profiles from the crime scene and those provided voluntarily pro bono, as Nanos informed News 4 Tucson.
On Thursday morning, Nanos discussed with the FBI the possibility of sending the newly discovered gloves to the Bureau's lab. He proposed sending all the gloves to the lab where all the DNA profiles and markers exist, rather than just the one or two found closest to the crime scene. The FBI agreed, finding this approach more logical.
While Nanos did not specify the exact number of gloves recovered, he mentioned that there were 'quite a number of them,' and they were found as far west as Oracle Road and as far east as Craycroft Road. He emphasized the potential significance of these gloves, stating, 'We don't even know the true value of these gloves.'
Nanos assured that all decisions in the Guthrie case are being made in collaboration with the FBI. He stressed that the current priority is finding Nancy Guthrie, saying, 'When this is all done with, offer your critiques all you want, but right now we have work to do.'
News 4 Tucson attempted to reach out to the FBI for a comment on Thursday night but has not yet received a response.
